Later today I will be on my way to Las Vegas for a friend’s wedding. I am not looking forward to being on an airplane. I don’t like to fly and I try to avoid it at all cost. My friend, A, really wanted me to be at her wedding. She even offered to pay for the flight if I would come. How could I refuse? So I agreed. Then she asked if I would play a song for her during the ceremony on my saxophone. I protested at first but how could I refuse someone who thinks so highly of me that they’d do whatever it took to get me there. So I will be playing for her a song called, “Draw Me Close.” I downloaded the Katinas version of the song so I could learn it.
It will be a very short trip. I fly out today. The wedding is tomorrow. Then I fly home the day after. I am a little nervous. I have not played in front of an audience since 2007, except for a gig or two here and there with a band in Florida called, Hipp Street. 10 years. That is how long I have been out of the Navy.
It will be just me. No accompaniment. So, I’m free to do whatever I want with the song. I just hope I don’t muck it up. I will let you know how it went. Hopefully, I will be able to get someone to record my performance while I play.
