Getting into Musical Shape & Exploring Jazz Greats

Joshua Redman

A few nights ago, I had the opportunity to hear the Joshua Redman group. I saw him in New Orleans about 29 years ago. It was astonishing! He was even better this time. His new group includes a vocalist, Gabrielle Cavassa. She is an excellent vocalist, and quite beautiful. The rest of the group was comprised of Paul Cornish on piano, Philip NOrris on bass, and Nazir Obo on drums. Most of the music they played was from a coming album by the name, Where Are We.

Joshua, of course, was fantastic. The young man on piano was other-worldly. The bass player performed better than any other I have ever heard. The drummer I would rank among the best drummers I have ever heard. The group was tight and well rehearsed and their performance was extraordinary. There was lots of chemistry between the musicians. It was one of the best jazz performances I have witness in recent years.

I mentioned there is a new album-Where Are We. It is available on iTunes. I look forward the hearing the recordings from the studio. The live performance was very emotional and moving. I hope to hear the same level of emotionally charged energy on the recording.

If you get a chance to hear Joshua Redman and his group, you should jump at the chance. You will not be disappointed. After being in the music business for decades, Redman has remained down to earth. I believe his true character shines through his music. I am glad I’ve had the chance to hear him live more than once in this life.
