Prince died today. I heard last week that he had to cancel a performance because of illness, but, that after some rest was back on the road. I had not heard of any sickness that he was suffering from. So I am as surprised as when I heard that Michael Jackson was dead. I remember when Michael got burned during a Pepsi commercial. What I didn’t know was that he had become addicted to painkillers. It’s quite understandable.
Prince leaves an incredible legacy of music behind. I saw him in 1984 at the peak of his popularity. It was the Purple Rain tour and he had Sheila E with him. His music dominated the airwaves that year. I was very excited back then about music. I had hopes of finding fame through music just like Prince and Michael.
It didn’t turn out that way though. Maybe because I was not as dedicated as they were. They really worked hard. I only worked hard enough to become proficient on one instrument, and, I never learned or became a great singer, as much as I loved music. And that’s the honest truth about me and music.
After the navy, I have sort of lost interest. I have not tried to write or record anything since 2012. Sometimes I am disappointed about that. But, what can you do?
Anyway, my two favorites of all time are now gone. There is no one producing music that really touches me like they did.
