Getting into Musical Shape & Exploring Jazz Greats

Practicing Autumn Leaves

Sometimes, I have a recorder going but fail to have a camera on. This was one of those instances. I was having an exceptionally good day of practice. The song is called Autumn Leaves. I don’t always play it well, but I seemed to have it more under my fingers on this particular day.

Autumn Leaves” is a popular song based on a French song “Les Feuilles mortes” (“The Dead Leaves”) composed by Joseph Kosma in 1945 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autumn_Leaves_(1945_song)).

The song has been recorded by various artists hundreds of times over the years. The number of times the song has been performed live would be millions or more. It is one of the jazz standards many young jazz players have cut their teeth.
