Well, I said wasn’t gonna, but, I did anyway. I bought another mouthpiece. I mentioned it the last post, the Vandoren V16 metal mouthpiece. Having played on it for the past several days, I am super satisfied.
First of all, it is the most gorgeous piece of metal I’ve ever seen. It is made of bell brass and plated with 14k gold. But being pretty isn’t everything. The mouthpiece offers a very rich sound in the lower register of the horn, and the upper register sounds open and not pinched, very smooth. It is quickly becoming my favorite mouthpiece. It’s a pleasure to play.

I may go back to Woodwind/Brasswind to leave a better review. The one I left the other day doesn’t say enough. It looks similar to an Otto Link but for me, it’s a little easier to get the sound I’m looking for.
Now, if I can get this carpal tunnel thing taken care of I think might be on to something. A few days ago I could not even play the horn because of the pain and tingling in my fingers. Then the next day it was like I never even had a problem. It is very strange and weird. I’m a little confused about what I should do. I’m so tired of surgeries though, and that is the action my doctor is sure to take.
A guitar player friend of mine had it done a few years ago. It worked out great for him. Hopefully, it will be the same for me. I guess the reason I worry about it is that things can go wrong, even if the doctor thinks it was a success.
My back surgery in 2010 went off without a hitch. But now, seven years later, I have more pain caused by that surgery than I ever had before. Surgery that changes any structure in your body is going to cause difficulties elsewhere in the body.
Anyway, that’s enough about my difficulties. Til’ next time.
