Well, it has been a while since I’ve posted here. In fact, it has been a while since I have practiced on a consistent basis. When I started working last March it got harder and harder to practice. Then I began getting stressed out at work, eventually quitting just a few months ago.
In the past several weeks though, I have been practicing maybe once a week. And a few days ago I bought yet another mouthpiece. It is a Drake mouthpiece. I have only recently heard of it and heard a few clips on YouTube. It sounded great and I wanted to try it.
Granted, the saxophones they were playing on YouTube were of higher quality than the one I have. Sometimes I wish I had just gone ahead and bought a Yamaha Sax or something of that quality.
I have been satisfied with the Allora Tenor Sax I bought a few years ago. It’s a good horn for the price, but, I do find that it is restrictive in some ways. It’s hard to explain. But I do remember how free-blowing the Yamaha sax the Navy provided was.
So, I want to begin practicing more consistently. I’m looking forward to the new mouthpiece. I was actually getting pretty good when I started working last year. Maybe working in the conventional sense is not in the cards. I spend most days in pain anyway. Playing music may be the only thing I can do without much pain.
The only problem is that I am not as driven by music as I once was. At this point, I can only say that I play for fun. It’s a hobby. I’m not sure I will ever be good enough to play professionally again.
