It has been a few weeks since I last posted. I was busy. Doing what? I don’t know. It did include practicing though. In fact, I have close to 16 tunes memorized. Of course, that doesn’t mean I play them superbly yet. That will come with time.
That’s about two sets worth of music if you’re doing a solo gig; maybe three or four sets if you’re playing with a group. My plan is to do some solo work using background recorded tracks. I am creating the tracks using Band-in-a-Box. I’ve had the program for several months. What a great tool. I was using an app called iReal Pro to practice. I had been trying to figure out how to use it like I’m using BIAB right now. The problem is that it sounds really cheesy.
Band-in-a-Box sounds more realistic. If you listen really closely you can hear that it is not actual musicians playing, but it sounds close enough; really, really close. It sounds so close it actually inspires you to work harder. Anyway, it doesn’t sound cheesy and it is something you really can use in a solo situation. That’s what I’m working toward.
Soon I hope to post a video of me playing a few tunes. I am working mostly on tenor. It is my favorite sax to play. I do well on alto also. I just like the sound of the tenor sax.
So stay tuned. There’s music coming
