Making Slow Progress

Slow Progress

I have been struggling lately with practicing. It is very difficult because of upper back pain. When I was young I never would have thought that my body would fail to the point to where I could not even play my saxophone.

When I got out of the Navy I had a lower lumbar fusion 3 years later. Then 6 years later, neck surgery. That was four months ago. Since then I have had a serious pain underneath my right shoulder blade. It seems to be getting worse.

Of course, I can’t hang a saxophone around my neck. So, I use a sax harness. It makes playing tolerable, but not by much. I practiced today, and now as I sit here on the couch at 10 p.m., that pain underneath my shoulder blade is at like a 8 out of 10.

This keeps my practice from being consistent, which slows progress. It makes me want to give up. I don’t know what to do. I will never be able to play like I once did.
