About My Blog

Welcome to my blog!  My name is Tony Tate. You can call me Tone Lovette, and I am, or rather I used to be, a professional musician. I played with the Navy music program for about 18 and a half years until I retired in 2007. It should have been a fun job, but there were those in charge who had a knack for making things miserable. However, I have to say, it was mainly fun.

This blog will be a journal of my musical progress and shine the spotlight on some of my favorite jazz artists. My high school band director, Dennis Eichler, was the to first expose me to jazz. Since then, I have always loved jazz and find it more interesting than any other genre of music.

While in the Navy, I was close to becoming a decent saxophone player. My drive didn’t last, though. I flamed out because of personal problems and just began to coast. Eventually, I started losing what little skill I had gained.

Now, I plan to try and get back those skills and bring to light some of the great jazz artists of the past and present. Hopefully, you will join in the discovery of new music. It’s not necessarily new, just new to you and me.

I am not placing a lot of pressure on myself regarding my progress, which would only cause me to quit again (probably). I’m just taking it day by day.

Maybe one day, I will be willing to play in public again. Until then, I will practice and hopefully catalog my progress here on this blog. If you live in the Charleston, South Carolina area, contact me. Maybe we can get together and jam.
